The weekend fatal stabbing of a rival adolescent on a New York City subway platform may have been the result of a fight that was sparked by a 14-year-old Yonkers native and aspiring rapper.
Who is Kelvin Martinez? Boy who killed Notti Osama
According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, prosecutors dropped the second-degree murder charge against 15-year-old Kelvin Martinez to first-degree manslaughter after discovering that Ethan Reyes had surrounded and attacked him with a stick and broom.
The fight happened soon before three on Saturday on the downtown platform of the 137th Street-City College “1” stop in Hamilton Heights.
Reyes was stabbed once in the abdomen and eventually passed away while EMS transported him to the hospital. Reyes used the rap name “Notti Osama.” His liver was perforated.
Assistant District Attorney Daniel Makofsky stated at Martinez’s arraignment on Sunday that the circumstances leading up to the fatal stabbing are still being investigated.
Reyes and Martinez belonged to rival gangs that have been involved in a number of recent escalations, were friendly with one another, and knew one another.
On a Saturday afternoon, Reyes and two friends were wandering down 137th Street and Broadway when Martinez came into the station to take a train into town.
