The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is the government agency accountable for providing social grants to over 17 million citizens. The SASSA application can be an online system used to apply for social grants, check the status of your application, and receive updates on your grant. To apply for a social grant, you must be a South African citizen or have a valid permit to stay in South Africa. You must also be between the ages of 18 and 60, no longer working, and have an income below R3,500 per month. The SASSA application can be used to apply for the following grants: old-age pension, disability grant, care dependency grant, war veterans’ grant, and foster care grant. The SASSA application is available in English and Zulu. You may apply online or personally at your neighborhood SASSA office.
